Meanwhile you see other people that just seem to have an easier time than you. People that might not workout as much or they might eat the worst foods, yet they seem to be able to build muscle just by looking at a dumbbell. This can become really frustrating and even if you're a persistant person that doesn't quit, it can be very easy to simply label yourself as a hardgainer and to start making excuses. But the truth is that you're not a hardgainer. That's right....you heard me.. you're not. Sure everyone's biology and physiology is different, and sure you may have a slightly tougher time building muscle than others, but most of what you believe about being a hardgainer is just a myth that's keeping you skinny. In reality, if you just do the 7 things that I"m about to show you consistently, I don't care how much of a hardgainer you think you are, you're going to bulk up. The first and most common problem for skinny guys is not eating enough calories. The irony is that Most people that call themselves hardgainers think that they eat so much, but thats usually not the case. On top of that there are some people out there passing along misinformation claiming that you don't need a calorie Surplus to build muscle that it's a myth and that you just need to be doing the right thin.. I mean Wouldn't it be great to burn much more calories without having to spend much more time at the gym. Well luckily there are at least 5 ways that you can burn more fat from every one of your workouts and as long as you're not bombing with your diet, the methods that I'm about to share with you can really help accelerate your progress. So the first one I want to talk about is something known as EMOM or every minute on the minute and I'm not only going to explain how you do it, but Im also going to give you a full free emom workout that clients normally pay me for at the end of this video, so stick with me. For starters, emom is a form of interval training in which you would perform a given amount of reps within a 1 minute time frame. Then for whatever portion of that one minute time frame that's left after you've completed your required reps that portion would be your break time. And then you would start your next set again on the next minute. A simple example would be to perform 15 reps of push-ups every minute for five rounds. So let's say it takes you 20 seconds to do your first round of 15 pushups. That means that you have 40 seconds of rest before going for your next set of 15. Let's say that on your second set it took you a full 30 seconds to perform your 15 push-ups. Now you would only have 30 seconds of rest before moving to your third round. So I'm sure you can already see that as the rounds go on and on it going to get harder and harder and you're going to be more and more likely to hit failure. Keep in mind that if you're completing the rounds at the last second and you have no time to take a break, then you need to make adjustments either to your rep range or the amount of weight you're using. There should always be a couple seconds of rest within each minute-long cycle. Also after completing all five rounds you would take a full 1 to 2 minute break before beginning the next exercise for another 5 rounds in which you would once again go every minute on the minute. Now this kind of a workout can simply be added on to the end of your regular weight training workout as a short 15-minute finisher to help you burn extra calories. Or you can stick to an emom interval training style for your entire workout session. You can also program your emom workouts for whatever your goals are. So if you're training for endurance you might go with a high rep range like 15 or more reps using light weights. This will leave you with very short breaks at the end of each round. On the other hand if you're training for strength you may want to only do three reps of a heavyweight for each minute long round. The free emom workout that I'm including is not meant to be a finisher, its meant to replace an entire hour long workout. You can of course just do a small portion of the workout as a short 15 minute finisher instead. But if you're doing the whole thing it'll take you an hour and it's specifically aimed at getting your heart rate up higher to help you burn more calories as well as body fat and i'll explain that workout to guys in detail in a bit. But it's also going to combine emom with another very effective training strategy known as cardio acceleration which is actually our second way to get more done in less time at the gym. Cardio acceleration will have you combining weight training exercises with aerobic cardio exercises. The great thing is that you can incorporate it into pretty much any weight training workout that you're currently doing. You would structure your weight training workout the same as always except instead of taking a two to three minute break between every one of your sets, you would now throw in 30 to 60 seconds of cardio immediatley after completing your set with the weights. And then after the cardio exercise you would then take a break. Now when I say cardio I don't want to give you the wrong idea. Your 30 to 60 seconds of cardio between your sets doesn't have to be a traditional form of cardio like running on a treadmill cycling or stair climbing. It can be a cardio machine it can also be something like 30 to 60 seconds of burpees or mountain climbers or squat jumps. Regardless of whether you do a cardio machine or an aerobic exercise you're going to be able to get a lot... So there's no incentive for me to not tell the truth. With that said let's start with a couple supplements that aren't going to be worth your money. Mass gainers are not going to be worth your money. There's no doubt that they'll provide you with a massive amount of calories, but most of these calories are going to be coming from sugar. So you really have to ask yourself what is it that you're gaining? Muscle or body fat? You're better off making your own mass gainer by taking protein powder, adding one or two tablespoons of peanut butter, a banana, oats and whole milk and blending it together. Another waste of time supplement is pretty much every testosterone supplement on the market. Even the best testosterone supplements are usually only going to raise your testosterone levels by 20 to 40% this is simply not high enough to notice any real changes in athletic performance. While there may be some ingredients in the testosterone booster that will help improve libido you shouldn't expect any real muscle building benefits from such an increase. Next is branch chain amino acids or bcaa's. You don't need bcaa's while bulking because you'll most likely be getting all of your amino acids from the food you eat and especially if you also take a protein shake. An argument can be made for the effectiveness of bcaa's during a cut, but while you're in a calorie surplus trying to bulid muscle they're not necessary. The same goes for L-glutamine, L- carnitine, and L- Arginine. Now, the first controversial supplement that you may want to look into if you're planning on training in a fasted state is HMB. I mean, even though intermittent fasting has been shown to be effective for fat loss, there are many people still wondering if you can actually use it to build muscle as well. While there is a small subset of individuals that do believe that you can in fact build muscle mass while fasting, most coaches continue to hold the stance that it's a bad idea. Some of them even claim that intermittent fasting will almost definitely lead to muscle loss. However, many of their opinions are formed by outdated myths. For example the idea that your body will start breaking down protein and amino acids for energy while fasting is what gave rise to the idea that fasting will cause muscle loss. But this has been thoroughly debunked. When looking at what happens to a person that experiences starvation we see that before beginning the fast their body is breaking down mostly carbohydrates for energy. It's also breaking down some fats and a little bit of protein. (1) Then after the fast begins, you see that the body drains the remaining glycogen or carbohydrate stores within the first day or two, while increasing the use of fat and ketone bodies for energy. But the really interesting thing is that contrary to myth of muscle loss accelerating while fasting we see protein breakdown rates decreasing from the norm helping the body conserve muscle instead. (1) Another human starvation study found very similar results. During the first 3 days of fasting, protein breakdown rates dropped to only 75 grams per day for an adult man weighing about 150lbs. That's less than 1/2 a gram of protein per pound of body weight but what's even more surprising is that after 3 to 4 days of not eating, protein breakdown drops to a tiny 20 grams per day. (2) This means that when you fast your body will significantly decrease its requirements of carbs for energy and instead of breaking down muscle, it will mostly rely on stored body fat for energy. Even though certain organs like your brain will require glucose to function properly your body will be able to separate triglycerides that come from fat stores into glycerol and free fatty acids. While the free fatty acids can be used immediately for energy the glycerol can be sent to the liver where it can be converted into glucose through a process known as gluconeogenesis ultimately keeping your blood sugar stable. So the bottom line is, no you won't be burning muscle every time you fast especially with relatively short fasting lengths less than 24 hours long. But the question remains can we BUILD muscle with an intermittent fasting plan? Well even though protein breakdown rates don't...
